Madeline R. Schneider

Madeline R. Schneider, 87, of Sturgis, S.D., the mother of two Gillette women, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at Sturgis Regional Hospital.

Mass of Christian burial was Nov. 15 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis with the Rev. Arnold Kari officiating. Inurnment was at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

She was born June 14, 1925, on the family farm near Tabor, S.D., to Charles and Tillie (Jilek) Dvoracek. She attended elementary school at Byrne Country School and graduated from Springfield High School in 1943.

She worked as a typist and office clerk at WNAX Radio in Yankton, SD. She also worked in Washington, D.C., and Chicago until her marriage to Laddie Schneider on Sept. 2, 1947, at St. George Catholic Church in Scotland, S.D.

They farmed for 12 years in Bon Homme County before moving to their Tyndall City, Country acreage in 1960. She worked in the office of the Bon Homme County Auditor for two and one half years. She also worked at the Farm Bureau as an assistant office manager for 13 years before retiring from the accounting department at Gurney Seed and Nursery in Yankton, S.D. In 2003 they moved to Sturgis.

She is survived by four daughters, including Barb Courtney and Sharon Witkofsky of Gillette, WY; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Mrs. Schneider was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Laddie; two brothers and a sister.

Memorials have been established to the Lippold Hospice Suite at the Sturgis Regional Hospital and Meals on Wheels.

Margaret Allen

Margaret L. Allen, 88, formerly of Gillette, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2012, at her Rapid City, S.D,, home.

At her request, cremation has taken place and no public services will be held.

Private family inurnment will be at a later date. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Kirk Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
