Man in Casper motel standoff is sentenced

Posted 1/14/13

CASPER — A man who held four people hostage in a Casper motel last summer could spend up to 12 years in prison.

Jacob Dziewic struck a deal and pleaded guilty in October to one count of possession of a deadly weapon with unlawful intent and four counts of felonious restraint. The maximum sentence on each of the four charges of holding a person against their will is five years, but because a semi-automatic pistol was involved, Dziewic received six to 12 years for each of the charges.

The sentences will run concurrently.

Dziewic and a second man, Joseph Geelan, were accused of holding four people hostage for 11 hours Aug. 21. Police eventually negotiated the release of the hostages and talked Dziewic out of the room. Geelan shot himself in the head.
