Man pleads guilty in fatal Riverton shooting

RIVERTON, Wyo. — A 24-year-old man has pleaded guilty to shooting a 27-year-old man to death at an apartment complex in Riverton.
KCWY-TV reports Dustin Dean Nickelson struck a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter stemming from the Sept. 13, 2012, death of Lucas Myhre. Nickelson originally faced one count of second-degree murder and up to life in prison, but now he faces a term of between six and 12 years.
Officers called to the apartment complex found Myhre unresponsive at the scene. They also recovered a handgun thought to have been used in the shooting.
Fremont County Attorney H. Michael Bennett says the plea deal was meant to "bring closure in a very difficult case to all parties involved especially the families of the victim and defendant."
