Michael Lee Phillips, 68, of Gillette and formerly of Newell, S.D., died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, of natural causes at his home in Gillette.

Committal services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, S.D., with the Rev. Tom Martin officiating and military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may gather at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis before leaving for the cemetery.

Visitation will be from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.

Mr. Phillips was born Nov. 25, 1944, at Ypsilanti, Mich., to Thomas and Dorthea (McEldowney) Phillips. He was a medic in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base near Rapid City, S.D.

He met Mary Ellen Shaw and they were married Feb. 14, 1969. They were married 35 years until her death in 2004.

He is survived by his daughter, Kendahl Wetz of Gillette; son, Kristofer Phillips of Casper; sister Dorothy Jane Ableson; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers Jack and William Phillips.
