Nick Bazemore, 18, of Gillette, Wyo., died in Spearfish, S.D. on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012.
Nicholas Wyoming Bazemore was born on April 30, 1994, in Baltimore, Md., the son of Anthony Wyoming and Ramona Evonne (Martin) Bazemore. After a short stay, the family settled in the small town of Gillette, Wyo., when Nick was 1 year old. By the age of 5, we knew he was born to run. Starting with soccer, he was all over the place.
His sister, Alssya, said best being of born on the same day, he’s the gift you wish you could take the batteries out of. Nick couldn’t sit still. Three short years later and very tired of all those kids kicking at him, dad showed him a sport where he could hit back and it would be OK and fun.
Nick was very competitive, and by ninth grade he played for the Sage Valley Eagles football team and won the championship. He also found another sport he would try, wrestling and wrestled his way to a district championship. He was very proud of the accomplishments of setting records that still stand with Conestoga Elementary, Sage Valley Junior High and Campbell County High School. But before leaving the football field blessing the crowds with one, two and even a 300-plus yard game.
In addition to all of the sports, he loved to play X-Box, wrestling with his brother, spending time with his family and although camping was not his favorite thing, he went so he could spend time with his family. Nick was always encouraging others and was a volunteer coach helping with grade school children, touching many young people in our community. He had a very strong faith in God. Nick had a great sense of humor. Upon graduation he wanted to be a physical therapist and was attending the University of South Dakota in Spearfish.
Nick is survived by his parents Anthony and Evonne Bazemore of Gillette, Wyo.; siblings Amanda Martin of Superior, Colo., Alyssa King of Evanston, Wyo., Anthony Wyoming Bazemore Jr. of Windsor, N.C., Gabrielle and Nicholas Taufer of Provo, Utah, and Evan Matthew Bazemore of Gillette, Wyo.; grandmothers Rosa Martin of Duncan of Arizona and Mary Ann Bazemore of Windsor, N.C.; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Wyoming Bazemore.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to benefit the Nick Bazemore Memorial Fund at First National Bank of Gillette. The funds will be used to take him back to Duncan, Ariz., where he will be laid to rest. Memorials and condolences may be sent in Nick’s name in care of Gillette Memorial Chapel, 210 W. 5th Street, Gillette, Wyoming 82716 or condolences via the Internet at www.gillettememorialchapel.com.
