Oil companies cited for drilling problems

FORT COLLINS — Two oil companies operating near Fort Collins have been issued citations by Colorado regulators for drilling violations.
Tom Fenno Production was cited for mechanical problems with two injection wells that use water to produce oil.
Prospect Energy was cited for mechanical problems with one of its injection wells near Fort Collins.
Tom Fenno Production officials blame a hole in tubes for making several wells vulnerable to mechanical failure.
A Prospect Energy official says a seal at the bottom of the well had become brittle and needs to be replaced.
