Meadowlark students collect more than 100,000 pennies to help town in New Jersey hit by Superstorm Sandy

More than 300 students combined to donate more than half a ton of pennies Friday at Meadowlark Elementary School in Gillette. It was the seventh year of an annual two-week penny drive at the school and the students were close to collecting the most pennies ever, said Carl Matson and Coleen Miller, sixth-grade teachers who sponsor the student leadership group at Meadowlark.
