CHEYENNE — A small plane has crashed near Cheyenne.
The plane went down around 7:30 Tuesday morning about 13 miles west of town. The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that only the pilot was on board.
Lew Simpson, spokesman for Laramie County Fire District No. 2, says paramedics arrived to find the pilot walking around at the crash site.
Laramie County sheriff’s officials identified the pilot as 38-year-old Michael Childress, of Nortonville, Kan. Sheriff’s officials say he had burns to his upper body and was life-flighted to a burn center in Greeley, Colo.
The plane was totally destroyed. It was a Cessna 188 contracted by Laramie County for mosquito control. The plane severed at least one power line as it crashed, leaving about 400 people without electricity.
