Price tag for Casper smoking ban vote: $10K-$25K

Posted 2/25/13

CASPER, Wyo. — A special election to decide the fate of Casper's public smoking ban could cost the city anywhere from $10,000 to $25,000.

City councilmembers revisited the smoking ordinance Friday after they decided earlier in the week to support a repeal of the ban.

If the council repeals the smoking ordinance with three readings by April 2, and if enough signatures are collected for a referendum by April 30, a special election would be held June 10.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports  a June 10 special election with all 27 polling places open would cost $24,950, and an election with one polling place open in each ward would cost $10,600.
