Posted 1/2/13

RAPID CITY — A Rapid City native hopes to grace the same Grammy stage as Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson and Bruce Springsteen come the Feb. 10 awards show.

Nichols Terry is part of the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet, which is among the nominees for the 55th annual Grammy Awards.

The Rapid City Stevens graduate and band’s artistic director says he was surprised that the quartet got three nominations for their classical album.

He tells the Rapid City Journal that his initial reaction was equal parts excitement, joy and shock.

The newspaper reports that while in high school, Terry was a member of All-State Band in 1996 and 1997 and All-State Orchestra in 1996.

Don Downs, his high school band director, says he could always tell Terry’s “heart was in music.”
