Report: Deadbeat employers owe workers millions

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah employers have stiffed workers out of millions of dollars in unpaid wages during the recession of the past four years.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that thousands of complaints have been filed at the Utah Labor Commission since 2009.
The Tribune says many of the companies involved were going out of business, taking advantage of people having trouble finding work or targeting illegal immigrants.
Officials say the worst deadbeat was a 57-year-old video-game developer now serving a year in jail for failing to pay nearly 100 employees.
David Rushton owes $1.2 million in a rare criminal case for nonpayment of wages. Rushton ran Sensory Sweep Studio in West Valley City.
