Memorial services for Rodney K. Cody will be at 10 a.m. March 4, 2013, at the American Legion Hall in Gillette, with Pastor Ernie Bishop of the Church of Christ officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #42.
Rod Cody, 61, of Gillette died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at his home in Gillette.
Rod was born April 29, 1951, in Vancouver, Wash., the son of Dean Cody and Julie Hegbloom. As a young boy his family moved to Idaho where Rod graduated from Wallace High School in Wallace, Idaho.
After high school Rod joined the United States Marine Corps. After receiving his honorable discharge from the military, he moved to Tooele, Utah, where he met the love of his life Cathy Luper. They married on Dec. 27, 1980, in Las Vegas and together the couple had three children. They moved around from Utah to New Mexico before settling in Gillette in 1998.
Rod was a well-educated man who held several degrees including a master’s degree in safety. At the time of his passing, Rod was employed by Big Horn Tire as the heath, safety, security and environmental manager. He also had started his own business in January 2000 called National CRS Safety Solutions. He continued to run his business until the day of his passing.
Rod was a member of many organizations and was an NSC First Aid instructor. He loved to spend time with his five grandchildren as often as he could. He also loved taking his wife, who he considered his best friend, for long rides on their Harley. In his spare time, he spent hours tinkering in his shop. He enjoyed building and rebuilding anything he could get his hands on.
Rod is survived by his wife, Cathy Cody; sons, KC Cody and Justin (Kayleigh) Cody; daughter, Jessica (Nick) Wright; grandchildren, Logan and Alyza Wright, Braylan, Grayson and Alivia Cody, all of Gillette; his father, Dean (Gladys) Cody of Hayden Lake, Idaho; mother, Julie (Jerry) Hegbloom of Mullan, Idaho; and sisters, Judy (Grant) Wilson of Lemoore, Calif., and Jacque Cleland of Butte, Mont.
Memorials to benefit The American Red Cross and condolences may be sent in Rod’s name in care of Walker Funeral Home, 410 Medical Arts Court, Gillette, WY, 82716. Condolences also may be sent via the website www.walkerfuneralhome.com.
To the Cody Family... My deepest sympathies to you and yours. I knew Rod through National CRS when I took the MSHA course. Rod was a great teacher. Rest in Peace.
