SHERIDAN, Wyo. — The Sheridan County Planning and Zoning Commission has voted to start amending zoning rules for small wind generators to make it easier for people to put them in their yards.
Currently, the planning commission and county commissioners have to give their approval before landowners can put a small wind turbine on residential property. That could be a four-month process. Sheridan County Planner Mark Reid tells The Sheridan Press (http://bit.ly/wxvouM) that county officials are looking at possibly allowing people to do so with only a zoning approval and a building permit.
The county will likely determine whether to set regulations for height limits and how far they would have to be from other structures. The county also could set standards for lighting, color, safety and abandonment procedures.
