Memorial services for Shirley Ann Cartwright will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Westside Baptist Church in Gillette with the Rev. Gary Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in Mount Pisgah Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Cartwright, 83, of Gillette, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, of natural causes at her home in Primrose Assisted Living in Gillette.

She was born Feb. 12, 1929, to Earl and Virginia (Lotz) Irwin in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Her family settled in Springfield, Mo., where she graduated from Central High School in 1947.

She was a devoted Christian and an active member of First Baptist Church.

She attended Southwest Missouri State College for three years majoring in English.

On Aug. 6, 1950, she married the love of her life, Paul Cartwright. During their 62 years of marriage, they had two sons.

During her early married life, she and her husband moved throughout the state of Missouri following his various jobs with Southwestern Bell Telephone. In 1968, they settled in Camdenton, Mo., where they lived for 42 years before moving to Gillette in 2010 to live close to their son and family.

She was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother. She had many hobbies and interests including fishing, sewing, quilting, gardening, traveling and church activities. She loved to sing in the church choir, teach Sunday School and always helped with Vacation Bible School.

She was a substitute teacher for several years. She loved to joke and was always happy. She especially enjoyed annual fishing trips to Texas where they caught so many fish. They had fish fries for their church family when they returned home to Missouri.

Mrs. Cartwright is survived by her husband, Paul; sons, Dan of Gillette and John of Parker, Colo.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Wiggins of Prairie Village, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
