Big Horns
Powder River Ranger District
The area received 5 to 8 inches of new snow in the past week. “I was at Coal Creek Lodge on Sunday and we got about 5 inches of new snow,” spokeswoman Judi Black said. “Willow Park tends to get a lot more snow.” Willow Park offers 13 miles of groomed trails and a variety of skill levels. There are also many back-country trails located throughout the Bighorn National Forest.
Bighorn National Forest managers also announced the Burgess Junction Visitor Center, located 50 miles west of Sheridan at the junction of U.S. Highways 14 and 14A, will not open in 2013 as hoped.
“Simply put, the costs to operate the Visitor Center are not supported by the funding sources,” said recreation program manager Dave McKee. “We had to prioritize our recreation and managing the Cloud Peak Wilderness.”
Bear Lodge
The lodge on Highway 14-A at Burgess Junction has received new snow every day this week. “Riding is very good all over the mountain. We’ve had some riders only go out 10 miles and find all the powder they want,” spokesman Rick Young said. “On the average, there is 30 to 75 inches and 50 percent of the area has anywhere from 50 to 75 inches. Trail riding is a seven on a scale of 1-to-10 and boondocking is a 10. So we’re in good shape.”
Deer Haven Lodge and Cabins
Kelli Jones is reporting anywhere from 8 to 10 inches of new snow at the lodge and more at the higher elevations. The lodge, on Highway 16, is 18 miles east of Ten Sleep and sits on the Ten Sleep stream in the Big Horns. It is close to the West Ten Sleep trailhead and offers 450 miles of groomed trails.
Black Hills
Northern Hills Ranger District
The Black Hills near Spearfish, S.D., has received 4 to 5 inches of new snow. Weather conditions over the weekend are expected to be dry with sunshine, but more snow is expected on Monday, said Carla Turbicille of the Northern Hills Ranger District.

Meadowlark Ski Lodge
Snow: Powder and machine-groomed conditions, with a base of 31 to 35 inches of snow.
What’s open: All 14 trails and both lifts.
Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
Hogadon
Snow: Powder and machine-groomed conditions with a base of 19 to 23 inches.
What’s open: Twelve of 24 runs and two of three lifts.
Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
South Dakota
Mystic Miner Ski Resort
Snow: Powder and machine-groomed conditions with a base of 20 to 25 inches of snow. Three to five inches of new snow.
What’s open: All runs serviced by chairlift on the front side.
Hours: 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Deer Mountain.
Terry Peak
Snow: Packed powder and machine-groomed snow with a base of 18 to 28 inches with two new inches of snow.
What’s open: 28 of 30 trails and four of five lifts.
Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
