Sylvia Alameda (Conaway) Haselwood, 89, of Montrose, Colo., formerly of Gillette, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at her home, The Homestead at Montrose, as a result of congestive heart failure.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel in Montrose.
Burial of cremains will take place at Grand View Cemetery following the service.
She was born Jan. 25, 1923, to Dave Sears and Alameda Jane (Sorden) Conaway in Rossville, Kan.
She was raised in Kansas and attended schools in Silver Lake, Kan. Her family often traveled to Colorado on vacation, and she grew to love the mountains.
She met and married her high school sweetheart R. Dale Haselwood on March 23, 1940, in Silver Lake, Colo. This union gave them four children. They shared 50 years of marriage.
After he was discharged from the Navy, they remained in Kansas and he worked construction. In 1950, they loaded up and moved to Colorado.
They lived all over eastern Colorado until about 1956. The family then moved to the Western slope, and pulled a 35-foot travel trailer in the big move. Holding the family together was one of her most important things.
They moved to Cortez, Colo., in 1959. From there, they moved to Montrose and then to Gillette in 1968 and resided there until they retired in 1985.
They then traveled around and enjoyed their motor home. They returned to Montrose in 1988, where they made their home until their time of death.
She loved sewing for the girls and crocheting. She tried to make everyone something. She loved being a wife, mother and grandmother. She always enjoyed hearing about her grandchildren and what they were doing. She was always happy when they came to visit. The couple loved to snowmobile and motorcycle ride with son, Larry and Judy.
Surviving family members include one son, Larry Haselwood of Gillette; three daughters, Carol Hobdey of Wendell, Idaho, Mary Brotherton and Gloria Hudson, both of Montrose; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Haselwood was preceded in death by her parents, Dave and Alameda Conaway, her husband, Dale Haselwood, two brothers, William Conaway and Alfred Conaway, two sisters, Goldie Green and Sarah Conaway and a great-granddaughter.
Memorial contributions in her memory, may be made to the donor’s choice.
