Teton project gets sustainable energy ranking

JACKSON— Grand Teton National Park has completed a 28-unit employee housing project in Moose that is being recognized for its sustainable energy.
The project earned the “platinum” ranking from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
LEED is a U.S. Green Building Council certification for sustainable design.
The two-bed, two-bath apartments in seven buildings are part of Grand Teton’s pledge to reduce 2007 greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent before 2020. The units save energy primarily by reducing heating needs.
Architect Matt Wallace said the wall and roof assembly are hyer-insulated.
Wallace said cutting heating costs by preventing heat loss makes sense in a climate as cold as the Tetons.
