USDA awards funds to tribal colleges in Dakotas

BISMARCK, N.D. — Several tribal colleges in North and South Dakota are receiving federal grants to make campus improvements and provide opportunities for outreach.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Tuesday that $3.3 million will go toward tribal colleges as part of the Rural Development Tribal College Grant program.

Each of the college awarded grant money will receive more than $158,000 for improvements. The money will be used to construct buildings, buy new equipment and upgrade classrooms, among other things.

In North Dakota, the USDA awarded grants to Cankdeska Cikana Community College, Turtle Mountain Community College, United Tribes Technical College, Fort Berthold Community College and Sitting Bull College.

In South Dakota, grants were awarded to Sisseton Wahpeton College, Sinte Gleska University and Oglala Lakota College.
