Utah parcels out 1 bar license

OGDEN — Utah’s liquor-control commissioners have awarded the state’s only available alcohol-club license to an Irish pub in Ogden.
The owner of MacCool’s Public House has been waiting for the license for 18 months.
The Irish pub has been operating on a more restrictive restaurant license inside Ogden’s historic Ben Lomond Hotel.
That meant customers had to order food to get a drink.
MacCool’s owner Scott Schlisman says the restriction puzzled more than a few of his customers.
Liquor commissioners awarded MacCool’s the license Tuesday — and had to turn away 16 other applicants.
There will be no more permits, based on Utah’s population, until December — and then only one license is expected to become available.
