JACKSON — Jackson residents who’ve been packed and ready to flee from a wildfire this week are breathing a little easier.

Authorities lifted an evacuation advisory for the east side of town late Thursday now that firefighters have secured containment lines around the portion of the fire closest to town.

The 3,324-acre Horsethief Canyon Fire is burning south of the resort town next to Snow King Mountain and is 36 percent contained.

Drier weather and gusts up to 20 miles per hour are expected to make the fire more active on Friday.

The Jackson Hole Daily reported that residents at Thursday’s fire meeting were warned to remain vigilant.

The fire started Saturday and about 1,000 residents were warned Monday to get ready to leave should the fire spread into town.
