Our beloved husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa passed away Dec. 4, 2012, at the home of his daughter Jacki while being cared for by his wife and daughter.
Born in Maida, N.D., on Dec. 11, 1927, Bill was raised on the family farm. His first job was working on the railroad throughout Montana and North Dakota, at which time he befriended many people along the railroad where he worked and has remained friends for life with anyone he met. He met and married Gladys Idland, who also worked on the railroad and they married in September of 1950.
At this time, he was also drafted into the Army and was shipped off to the Korean War to serve.
In 1964, Bill went to work for Atlantic Richfield as a pumper in Custer, Mont., and then transferred to Gillette, Wyo., in January 1970. After Bill retired, he owned B&R Stake Co. and did wood working. Bill and Gladys enjoyed the winters in Yuma, Ariz. He resided in Gillette until July 2010, when they moved to Sumner, Wash.
Bill enjoyed spending time as a 4-H leader and watching his children in sports throughout the years. Later in life, he enjoyed watching his grandkids and great-grandkids in all their sports. Bill loved to fish and looked forward to his yearly Alaska trip with his son, son-in-laws, daughter or grandsons.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gladys of Sumner, Wash., as well as sister Pearl (Pritchert) of Valley City, N.D., and sister Evelyn (McDonald) of Langdon, N.D.
He is also survived by his children Loren of Missoula, Mont., Jacki (Wanke) of Lake Tapps, Wash., Roxy (Bailey) of Gillette, Wyo., Wilma of Aberdeen, Wash., and stepson Frank Bounting of Bozeman, Mont. Surviving grandchildren include Shauna (Simons) of Lake Tapps, Wash., Dusty (Bauer) of Bonney Lake, Wash., Tom Randall of Missoula, Mont., Krista (Kearns) of Seattle, Wash., and Keegan Bailey of Gillette, Wyo. Great-grandchildren include Shania, Catera and Caeden Simons of Lake Tapps, Wash., and his namesake William Kearns of Seattle, Wash.
