CODY, Wyo. — The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is warning that grizzly bears are emerging from their dens this spring.
The agency says that bear tracks have been observed in the snow in the Jackson and Cody areas.
Brian DeBolt is large carnivore conflict coordinator with the game department. He says male bears emerge from their dens in mid-March and early April while females and young-of-the-year cubs emerge in late April and early May.
Antler hunters should be particularly cautious of bears. They search big game winter ranges in the early spring for antlers while bears are searching the same terrain for the carcasses of winter-killed deer and elk.
