Wyoming records 1st human West Nile case this year

Posted 8/22/12

CHEYENNE — Wyoming has recorded its first human case of West Nile virus this year.

The state Department of Health says an adult male from Crook County has been confirmed with the disease.

State Health Officer Wendy Braund says while summer may be winding down, the season for West Nile virus is not yet over.

She says it remains important for people to protect themselves from mosquito bites.

Three human West Nile virus cases were reported in Wyoming last year. There were six in 2010.

The last death blamed on the disease occurred in 2009.
