One of the major criticisms of the Gillette City Council in recent years has been a lack of transparency surrounding the council, particularly in choosing replacements and disseminating potential negative information about sitting council members. What level of transparency should residents expect from their elected officials?
I feel the level of transparency has been appropriate.
There is a lot of consideration put into these situations as they occur. We publicly announce and interview applicants when filling unexpected vacancies. We then discuss and decide in private. This is and has been approved protocol.
I understand this private discussion aspect frustrates some of our community, but as a council we consistently work to be cognizant of and follow our code of ethics.
As for the second part of your question, we apply the same discretion when deciding our best direction of action.
I would prefer not to go into detail of the most recent situation, but I can assure you full transparency was our main objective.
