Cathy Schuh stood in her living room Monday afternoon looking at the 12-foot Christmas tree that towers above the furniture. Behind the tree, the sky turned red as the sun dipped below the rolling hills of Gillette.

“I could have gone a little taller,” she said of the tree. “Maybe next year.”
