The Coal Country Trash-a-Thon trudged through the awful weather Saturday with several volunteers and schoolchildren braving the cold rain and swirling winds to pick up more trash than ever before.

The volunteers from various organizations, schools and other people met at Cam-plex to divide up their responsibilities and set out to clean up streets, parks and other areas of the city, ultimately picking up an estimated 1,500 bags of trash, which is more than in any previous year. The total tonnage of waste cleaned up isn’t yet available.
