The attorney for a Gillette man accused in the June shooting death of his friend has filed a motion to dismiss the case on the “Stand Your Ground” law, arguing that he had a right to protect himself from an intruder.

Joshua Lewis Campbell, 21, has been charged with manslaughter in the death of Tanner Miller, 21, and has pleaded not guilty in District Court.

Tragic situation on all fronts, however, I agree with the "Stand Your Ground" argument as this is exactly the type of situation the law was written to address (i.e. prosecutor overreach)

They locked the door, shut off the lights, grabbed rifles, to scare their drinking buddy who had left to park the car... then he comes back, knocks on the door multiple times and all of a sudden BANG!!!!! Self defense????? Everything about their prank was working perfectly until one of them takes it too far and pulls the trigger on a loaded gun. Tragic accident, perhaps... BUT SELF DEFENSE... NO WAY!!!!!!!

Just another tragic example of irresponsible gun ownership.
