The Campbell County Weed and Pest District has begun the process of separating from the county after the Weed and Pest Board voted unanimously last week to become an independent entity.

The board said there is no animosity or ill will toward the county, and that the current commission has been supportive and great to work with. But special districts are facing increasing pressure from the state to become completely independent, said Weed and Pest Director Quade Schmelzle.
