When she was growing up in Bulgaria, Miglena Shoemaker never dreamed about coming to America. But she moved to the United States in 2011 after falling in love.

“It was a love story,” she said. “But things don’t always work out like they’re supposed to. Things in my life, they happened to be in this direction.”
