With the end of fiscal year 2021 in the books, the city of Gillette has its final count on sales tax receipts from this past year.

The $30,864,973 in sales tax received in 2021 is a 28.34% drop from the roughly $43 million collected last year and the lowest haul since 2017.

Maybe people are choosing to shop

out of town because of the local politics. Sometimes that is the only recourse available.

Sales tax revenues for Gillette have reached the peak, and while the amount will fluctuate the decline will be continuing and inevitable with the ending of coal.
