Antelope mine

The entrance to Cloud Peak Energy’s Antelope mine, which covers area in southern Campbell and northern Converse counties.

An auction for Cloud Peak Energy’s Powder River Basin assets began Thursday, but the company’s nearly 1,000 Campbell County employees may have to wait until after the weekend to learn if they’ll still have jobs and if so, with who.

Although the company confirmed in court documents that it had received several qualified bids for its assets, the auction process is closed and there was not word on any potential auction results as of press time Friday.
