Signs were put up throughout Sage Valley Junior High School after a potential school shooting was thwarted Nov. 13, 2018, thanks to an anonymous student alerting the school principal to a potential threat.

More than a dozen people were seated in the gallery in District Judge Michael N. “Nick” Deegan’s courtroom Thursday afternoon for the sentencing of Dale Warner, the teen who brought guns to a local junior high school with the intent of killing people in November 2018.

Many were crying throughout the hearing, which lasted nearly two and a half hours. Some had to remove their masks to wipe their faces with tissues.

Perhaps the writer doesn't know, but when someone adopts a child, you are then considered, by law, their 'adopted mother'. There is also a biological mother, but I really doubt that there is an 'adopted stepmother'. Those two words are mutually exclusive. You can be a stepmother, but there really isn't anyway you can be adopted by a stepmother whereas you wouldn't just become an adoptive mother.

The way I understood it was that she is married to the adoptive father...but she is not the adoptive mother of Dale. Still the wording they use is confusing.
