While new unemployment claims in Campbell County continue to decrease compared to a few weeks ago, the number of local people who are out of work remains high.

Between Jan. 1 and March 14 — just before federal and statewide COVID-19 restrictions were implemented — Campbell County averaged 37 new claims a week. That number skyrocketed 1,386% to 550 the week ending March 28 before steadily declining.
