Little Powder School, one of Campbell County School District’s rural schools, sits not quite 50 miles north of Gillette on land that’s leased until summer 2026. On the clock because of the lease agreement’s end, the district has announced a significant step forward on the path to getting a new school building about a quarter mile southwest of the current location.

Dennis Holmes, the district's associate superintendent for instructional support, briefed the board of trustees last week on the developments in what he called a “long, drawn out process.”
