About 26 chickens died in a small barn fire Monday afternoon, the Campbell County Fire Department reports.

Firefighters arrived at 6765 South Highway 59 on Monday afternoon in response to a fire in a small horse barn, estimated to be at about 40 feet by 12 feet, according to a release from the fire department.

The building, whose value was estimated at $7,500, was lost to the fire. It didn’t damage any other structures around the barn.

The fire department continues to investigate the cause.
