Philip Anthony (Tony) Varner, 33, died Monday, July 28, 2014, at his home in Greeley, Colorado.

Tony was born March 13, 1981, in Gillette, to Philip Alan Varner and Patricia Marie (Marshall) Varner. Tony moved to Bozeman, Montana, when he was 11 and graduated from Bozeman High School, but maintained a special connection to Gillette. He loved skateboarding, snowboarding, camping, hunting and anything outdoors. He recently changed careers and was working for All Around Roustabout in the oil fields in eastern Colorado.

He is survived by the lights of his life, his daughters, Mesa Thornhill of Bozeman and Venice Varner of Greeley; his parents, Phil (Buzz) Varner and Sandy Ratliff, and Patricia (Patsy) and Charles Ballek; his sister, Kim Wenger of Sheridan; as well as his grandfather, William Marshall of Gillette; and great-grandmother Bernice Nicolini of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Many special relatives and friends from the Varner, Marshall, Halbert, Hunter, Ballek, Nicolini and Thornhill families are missing Tony.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Phil and Jeanine Varner, and Elizabeth Marshall; great-grandmother, Frances Irene (Nana) Halbert.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Tony’s life, and spreading of his ashes will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Little Bear Canyon outside of Bozeman.
