JASON H. ROBERTS, 48, was sentenced Aug. 19 to seven to 10 years in prison for third-degree sexual assault, which a jury convicted him of June 6. District Judge Stuart S. Healy III credited him with 77 days served and fined him $7,275 but waived $5,000 in attorney fees because of Roberts’ inability to pay. Roberts has appealed the case to the Wyoming Supreme Court. The charges stemmed from accusations that he had sexual intercourse with a 12-year-old girl in 1999. She had reached out to him in 2017 on social media and discussed what had happened years before, according to court documents. Those messages were provided to police. “u were sexy and built like a lady but y were not one mentally,” he had written, according to court documents.
